In late SXIX when Destilerías Plà born the absinthe was one of the most consumed liquor in the world. Uncle Pepe Pla who had brought their books mixtures from Paris also caught somewhat bohemian spirit distilling the capital of the Seine. There absinthe had become one of the main images of the bohemian movement, so that even its price soared by huge demand.
Famous artists such as Van Gogh, Gauguin, Toulouse-Lautrec, Edgar A. Poe and Charles Baudelaire were true fans of absinthe. With it said reaching a visionary state of artistic inspiration that helped them in their compositions.
In those decades in particular in Puçol, Absinthe is already manufacturing in each house with wormwood, fennel and anise. So Uncle Pepe Pla drinking from French influences but also from those of their neighbors think the formula of the Green Absinthe, which for many years was regarded as “the national drink of Puçol.” Each celebration is watered with liters of Uncle Pepe Plà Absinthe Green arriving to produce more than 10,000 liters of absinthe per year.
Over the years the formula of absinthe has adapted to the legislation. Absinthe was removed from the mixture by its hallucinogenic powers and replaced with licorice. A change that has not made it lose its special flavor.
In addition to Puçol, green absinthe is typical of the area north of Valencia.
